Major New Donor Sponsors The Beacon Scholarship for University - September 2014

As a result of a significant donation commitment by Nairobi International School, one additional new Beacon Scholarship for University will be available starting in September 2015 for the next three academic years to either Cambridge University (Cambridge) or The London School of Economics (LSE) in the UK.

This means that two talented Kenyan students will now be able to commence an undergraduate degree programme (medicine excluded) in the UK, one at Cambridge and one at LSE. Each student will be required to pay one-third of tuition and maintenance fees each year; The Beacon Equity Trust and its Partners will pay two-thirds. Overall costs of tuition and maintenance and one return airfare to Kenya are estimated at £36,000 (US$60,000/Ksh5.1m) per annum, which means The Beacon Scholarship for University has a value for the student of approximately £24,000 (US$40,000/Ksh3.4m) per annum. Please note, costs are estimates only and may vary slightly depending on the course of study and the university entered.

NIS is very pleased to be able to participate in this major scholarship, and looks forward to working with The Beacon Equity Trust in developing future leaders for Kenya,” said Radhika Lee, Director of Nairobi International School.

The Beacon Scholarship for University is aimed at developing future leaders. Candidates must hold an offer from Cambridge and/or LSE for a 3-year undergraduate degree course before applying for a Beacon Scholarship for University. They should be Kenyan, 18-21 years of age, able to demonstrate both leadership capabilities and financial need, and make a commitment to return to Kenya within one month of degree completion.
