Amwene Etiang
Attended the University of Bristol and graduated in 2024, having held a Beacon Scholarship for 3 years. Amwene, from Uganda, is currently working as a Research Intern at the renewable energy think tank - Enzi Ijayo Africa Initiative, with plans to develop her career in the climate action/energy/business and human rights sector.
Amwene graduated with a First-Class Honours degree in Law, thanks to sustained dedication to her studies and ongoing revision of all modules.
Amwene is a keen tennis player, enjoying competitive matches during her time at Bristol, and also experimenting with a role as an LTA instructor but finally electing to volunteer as an assistant coach instead. Other interests include yoga, basketball and music production.
Amwene is a natural communicator and influencer: she is a founding member the Beacons Forever group on LinkedIn, posting regularly with informative and impactful articles to support the wider group; she writes articles for the Student Lawyer, and also produces a monthly Tennis Club newsletter. At Bristol, she took the role of Secretary for the East Africa Society.
Amwene is a committed volunteer and has worked on several pro bono cases with the Law Clinic, as well as sharing research and legal knowledge with those who need it. Her citizenship projects have focused on organising tennis holiday camps for children at home, and she plans to continue with this project.
Beacon Workshop Participation
Amwene’s 2023 Summer Beacon Citizen Project, was about organising a tennis and academic tutoring holiday club at East Kololo Primary School in Kampala.
