Neema Wandabwa

2023 Neema photo large18 years old, from Kenya, attending Cardiff University, UK. Neema was awarded a Beacon Scholarship in May 2023.

Neema is studying towards an LLB in Law. Prior to that she attended Brookhouse School, Kenya, where she gained A-levels in English Literature, English Language and Law.

Neema enjoys drama, plays tennis and swims competitively. A keen debater, she was on the winning team at the University of Dundee mooting competition leading to her starting a school Mooting Club, and she was selected to join the National Debate Team.

Neema is active in Leadership and Social Influence: she was variously Head Girl, Senior Prefect and Senior House Captain at school, and participated in coordinating student-led activities and events at school.

Neema is involved in many different Citizenship activities: she supports a small community school library; has volunteered at a rural school to supply sanitary towels and dry foods; and has volunteered with Kenya Girl Guides highlighting menstrual health, gender-based violence and the importance of education. She has an interest in the environment, particularly focusing on reducing emissions and tree planting.

 

Workshop Participation

As a new Beacon Scholar, Neema spoke about her experience of service to date, in particular her work supporting literacy and reading, and working to improve menstrual health, amongst disadvantaged communities in her locality.
